Onyx Engineering participation at The Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) from 13th – 16th November 2016.
Onyx Engineering is teaming up with the Universiti Malaya (UM) to jointly work on a project to promote cooperation in research and development in the field of Capacity Building and Local Talent Development. The university yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Onyx Engineering Sdn Bhd for a five-year project that will include collaboration in the area of Source Rock and Reservoir Characterisation.
UM deputy vice chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Dr Noorsaadah Abdul Rahman said the MoU would allow greater cooperation between the institution and the company, apart from paving the way for best practices in the future. “The collaboration will focus on the development of human capital, give solutions to the challenges of the oil and gas industry, and seek new opportunities. “This will also benefit final year projects for undergraduates, internship placements for undergraduates, and also research projects for academics and postgraduates in related fields, and any other areas of cooperation agreed by both parties,” she said at the MoU signing ceremony here yesterday. She added that the strategic collaboration will continue to support Malaysia’s goal of becoming a high-income knowledge-based nation by 2020.
The documents were signed by Noorsaadah on behalf of UM, together with Onyx Engineering managing director Ahmad Nidzar Hamzah. Nidzar said their company’s scope of collaboration also created opportunity for graduate research projects and internship placement for UM students. “This is an interesting proposition on our part, because Onyx Engineering will provide students with practical, hands-on experience and exposure to a realistic work environment in the petroleum industry.”
The partnership between UM-Onyx Engineering will be led by the university’s Faculty of Science geology department. The university said the company is expert in the field of Source Rock and Reservoir Characterisation and the valuable exchange of best practices with UM will provide Malaysian talents an enhanced educational experience to build capabilities through transfer of knowledge and technology, insights, experience and skills, and provide exposure to global markets and work opportunities.
As a partner of Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation, the collaboration will also precede the upcoming Malaysia Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference 2016 to be held from Sept 28 to 30 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Bell Geospace, the world leader in Gravity Gradiometry, together with Onyx Engineering, has been awarded a contract by multinational exploration business, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS).
The contract, for 3D multi-client Full Tensor Gradiometry (FTG) data acquisition, processing and interpretative services, will cover approximately 198,900 square kilometres. The provision of airborne FTG and magnetic surveys will be undertaken over offshore Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah and will commence subject to pre-funding requirements and approval by PETRONAS.
With its unique expertise and track record in high resolution gravity technology, Bell Geospace & Onyx Engineering will provide a variety of expert services for the project. This will allow current petroleum arrangement contractors and potential bidders seeking new exploration blocks, to quickly identify prospective areas for quick and efficient understanding of complex sub-surface geology.
John Macfarlane executive vice president of Bell Geospace comments: “We expect that this data will play a significant role in the exploration process for companies working or considering working in Malaysia, allowing for the first time ever, a rapid selection of areas of interest for bidding and for planning for subsequent seismic acquisition and interpretation work.”
“With its track record of expertise, technology and analysis, Bell Geospace will take the lead role in this exciting project, bringing a new, efficient and cost-effective exploration methodology in Malaysia.”
Bell Geospace clients include oil & gas companies as well as mineral exploration companies. FTG data is used to plan cost-effective seismic programmes and model sub-surface geology to find natural resources. The business has been at the forefront of Gravity Gradiometry for over 15 years, with over 2,000,000 line km under its wings. Bell Geospace experts continue to find new and innovative techniques for acquiring, processing and interpreting Gravity Gradiometry data to allow its clients to minimise risk and maximise potential.
